Inkwell

A writing tool for authors
Coming soon Explore features ↓

Inkwell is a desktop writing app built for long-form authors. It keeps your manuscripts encrypted on your own device, while an AI assistant helps with style and plot suggestions, typo detection, and more. Your manuscripts are never collected by the developer — they stay safely on your machine.

Features

How it works

1

Write on your device

Manuscripts are saved to an on-device encrypted database. You can write and store offline.

2

Connect an AI provider

Sign in with Google or use your own API key to connect a provider. Credentials stay on your device only.

3

Send only when you choose

Only the text you choose is sent to your selected provider, and only when you actively run an AI feature.

Supported AI providers

You choose which provider to use. No data is sent to any provider you don't use.

Google Gemini OpenAI Anthropic (Claude)

When you run an AI feature, the text you choose is sent to that provider's servers. How the transmitted data is processed and retained is governed by each provider's API terms.

Security · Privacy

Local encryption

The database is encrypted with SQLCipher, and the key is protected by OS secure storage (DPAPI).

No server collection

The developer runs no server that can access manuscripts or account data. AI transmission happens directly from your device.

Governed by provider terms

When you use an AI feature, the text you choose is sent to that provider's servers; processing and retention are governed by each provider's API terms.

Integration & permissions

Inkwell calls the Gemini API on your behalf through Google account sign-in. The scopes requested and how data is handled are described in detail in the Privacy Policy.
